THE USE OF COOL STORAGE IN EXISTING BUILDINGS HAS NOT YET BEEN WELL DEFINED. A RESEARCH PROJECT WAS CONDUCTED. INCLUDED IN THE RESEARCH WERE ROOFTOP UNITS, DIRECT EXPANSION SYSTEMS, WATER-SOURCE HEAT PUMP SYSTEMS, AND CHILLED WATER SYSTEMS. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT ROOFTOP UNITS AND DIRECT EXPANSION SYSTEMS HELD THE GREATEST OPPORTUNITY FOR A COOL STORAGE RETROFIT. THE PAPER COVERS RETROFITTING COOL STORAGE TO TYPES OF SPACE-CONDITIONING SYSTEMS. COOL STORAGE IMPLIES THE USE OF ICE AS A STORAGE MEDIUM.
