Summary

MEASUREMENTS ON ENERGY RECOVERY FROM MILK COOLING ON DAIRY FARMS OVER A 12 MONTH PERIOD WERE TAKEN TO OBTAIN INFORMATION ON THE RATIO OF COOLED MILK TO HEATED WATER. THE DAILY VOLUME OF COOLED MILK CAN BE USED TO PREDICT THE QUANTITY OF WARM WATER, WHICH IS THE BASIS FOR PLANNING THE SIZE OF A HOT WATER STORAGE UNIT. IN HERDS WITH 40 OR MORE DAIRY COWS HEAT RECOVERY FROM MILK COOLING ENABLES SINGLE SOURCE WATER HEATING FOR THE FARMHOUSE AND THE FARM; FOR SMALLER HERDS AN ADDITIONAL FORM OF ENERGY IS REQUIRED.
