Summary

THE AUTHORS REPORT ON WORK IN WHICH PMN (POLYMORPHONUCLEAR) CYTOPLASTS WERE FROZEN IN A MEDIUM WITH 10 PERCENT FETAL CALF SERUM AND 10 PERCENT DIMETHYL SULPHOXIDE AND STORED AT 203 K (-70 DEG C). AFTER THAWING AND WASHING RECOVERY WAS 75 PERCENT. THE CONTENT OF ALKALINE PHOSPHATE, LACTATE DEHYDROGENASE, CONSUMPTION OF OXYGEN, GENERATION OF HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AND RATE OF PHAGOCYTOSIS OF STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS WAS THE SAME FOR FRESH AND CRYOPRESERVED CYTOPLASTS. THE RESULTS ARE DISCUSSED. THEY OPEN POSSIBILITIES TO STORE NEUTROPHIL MATERIAL ALLOWING FOLLOW UP OF PATIENTS AND OTHER STUDIES. C.R.F.
