Summary
Physiotherapeutic cryotherapy does not mean the destruction of the tissues due to the cold, but the activation and tonification or inhibition and relaxation of tissue structures induced by the cold. Short one second administration of the ice induce a reactive stimulation and an increase of the muscular activity. This mechanism can be used to relearn and open the way to series of movements as well as for feeble paralyses. The paper describes the use of ice crystals in a towel, ice on a stick, ice sacks, chilled water, cold pack, cold tap water, cold air, cold gas and the operation mode.
