Defrosting the catenary system of high-speed lines thanks to the Joule effect.

Summary

Under some meteorological conditions, frost or ice can form on the contact wire of electric traction lines when there are no trains on the lines. Parasite resistance is therefore created and can disrupt the capture of current, and when captured intensities are high, deterioration of the contact wire and the pantograph can occur. Installations which make it possible to defrost contact wires must therefore be planned, because high speed requires excellent capture. To implement these installations, it is important to understand meteorological phenomena, defrosting of catenary systems and temperature-rise principles.
