Summary
This article presents the outcome of a joint Cemagref and CEA-GREThE project on the design of low-charge refrigeration plants used in small-scale food processing plants. The aim was to combine major reduction in the refrigerant charge in these plants and to achieve high energy efficiency, in particular through the implementation of compact exchangers with small-diameter channels. This approach made it possible to minimize the overall environmental impact of these plants; this impact can be characterized using the TEWI criterion.
