Design of plate-fin type heat exchanger for LNG liquefaction (application of enthalpy method).

Number: pap. 009

Author(s) : CHUNG M., KIM C.

Summary

A calculation tool is developed for the design of plate-fin type heat exchangers utilized in the liquefaction processes of LNG. The software is a Microsoft Excel® based application that facilitates the parameter input processes and provides user-friendly interfaces. NIST REFPROP 8.0 is used to calculate the thermodynamic and transport properties of the mixtures. With the package the performance of existing cross-flow type heat exchangers can be predicted or the size and shape of new ones can be determined. Popular correlations for convective heat transfer and friction factors are incorporated in such a way that the user can choose one depending on his needs.
