Development and evaluation of high performance, low GWP refrigerants for air conditioning and refrigeration.

Summary

The development of reduced GWP refrigerant gases to use in new and existing refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including centrifugal chillers, is described. The design trade-offs and implications with regards to system performance with these new refrigerants, and regulatory scenarios are discussed. It is possible to develop refrigerant blends that match the performance of R410A and R404A if regulations allow GWP weighted refrigerant options that have substantially reduced GWP, retain high refrigeration capacity and enable high energy efficiency. For some applications it is possible to have non flammable, reduced GWP replacement refrigerants.
