Summary
This article is the Spanish translation of an article presented at the IIR-Gustav Lorentzen conference on natural working fluids, in Copenhagen, Denmark (see the Bulletin of the IIR, reference 2009-0209). A co-operation between a cabinet manufacturer (Vestfrost A/S), a brewery (Carlsberg) and Danish Technological Institute has lead to the development of a new bottle cooler with CO2 as refrigerant and a new bottle cooler with hydrocarbon as refrigerant. Both bottle coolers have been tested in a climate chamber as well as in the field in supermarkets. As all other standard bottle coolers the cabinet has one glass door. However, the original version is equipped with an R134a refrigeration system. In the course of the project, prototypes with transcritical CO2 systems were built and tested in a climate chamber. The compressor is a Danfoss TN1410 compressor and the expansion device is a capillary tube. The hydrocarbon version is equipped with a Danfoss NLE15KTK compressor and the HFC version is equipped with a Danfoss NL10MF compressor. All three versions have fulfilled the requirements stated in the pull-down test where a great number of cans with soft drinks were cooled from 32 to 3°C. 9 coolers were operated with CO2, 5 with R134a and 4 with R600a, and in 2006 they were placed in supermarkets for 3 months and during that time field tests were carried out. The hydrocarbon coolers as well as the CO2 coolers showed good performance and the hydrocarbon coolers showed 27.7% reduced energy consumption compared to the R134a coolers, and the CO2 coolers showed 11.7% reduced energy consumption compared to the R134a coolers.
