Development of a direct-fired partly air-cooled double-effect absorption chiller.

Author(s) : SCHWEIGLER C., DANTELE T., KREN C., et al.

Summary

Direct-fired absorption chillers have to compete with mechanical vapour compression chillers in terms of primary energy demand and economical aspects. With respect to the different European climatic conditions a new European plant concept is developed. It incorporates a compact gas-fired or exhaust gas driven steam generator, an economizer heat exchanger for heat recovery from the flue gas and the optimum design of a combined wet/dry cooling tower. This allows for raised cooling water temperatures and reduced water consumption as compared to the standard chiller design. Optimisation of the system has to be done for various European climates.
