Development of a transcritical CO2 compressor series for medium to large refrigerating capacities.

Number: pap. ID: 350

Author(s) : FRÖSCHLE M.

Summary

In recent years, particularly in the supermarket- and heat pump area, a growing demand for CO2-systems for subcritical and transcritical applications could be observed. An extension of the CO2 components in this area is therefore absolutely necessary. For this reason a completely new transcritical compressor series for maximum pressures of up to 150 bar and extended capacity stages was developed especially for the demands of CO2. This paper is intended to give an insight into the development of those compressors and examines the requirements of the series exclusively designed for CO2. Many years of experience in this area were incorporated into the overall design as well as the oil- and refrigerant management and the gas flow design. In addition, a strong focus is on the topic of energy efficiency, connected to a speed control that is as variable as possible.
