Summary

A prototype of a two-stage double-effect water chiller using water-lithium bromide was developed within the framework of the European project LIBRAC. It has an optimized refrigerating circuit, high-performance heat recovery, reduced internal non-reversibility, all of which provide greatly enhanced overall efficiency. This is achieved thanks to a very compact boiler design (the boiler is directly gas-fired) and a regulating strategy which enhances performance, even under part-load conditions. The economic benefits are two-fold: reduced investment and running costs.
