Summary

Accurate modeling and simulation of the storage tank behaviour plays a significant role in the management of the chilled-water storage system. However, the increased complexity of such systems, poses new challenges for the traditional modeling and simulation programs due to the need of higher level of abstraction and modularization. In an effort to approach these challenges, we present in this paper a model development of a chilled-water storage tank, via an object-oriented modeling approach. Simulation results, for steady flow rate injection, have showed its ability to evaluate the water temperature evolution in a compromised level of performance between traditional fully mixed 1D models, often too inaccurate, and fine-scale 3D CFD models, less efficient and more cumbersome to manage in heterogeneous systems. Such performance level reveals necessary in today’s chilled-water system design and management.
