DEVELOPMENT OF CHLOROFLUOROCARBON REFRIGERANTS.

Author(s) : DOWNING R.

Summary

MANY CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS HAVE EXCELLENT THERMODYNAMIC PROPERTIES SUITABLE FOR USE IN MECHANICAL REFRIGERATION BUT ARE LIMITED BY OTHER PROPERTIES SUCH AS FLAMMABILITY, TOXICITY, AND LACK OF STABILITY. THIS DEFICIENCY WAS RECOGNIZED AND A SEARCH TO RECTIFY IT LED TO THE CHLOROFLUOROCARBON REFRIGERANTS. SOME HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF THESE PRODUCTS ARE DISCUSSED.
