Summary

THE EVAPORATOR IS CHARACTERIZED BY ONE HEADER SECTION AT ONE SIDE AND A 180-DEG TURN REFRIGERANT PATH IN EACH TUBE EXPERIMENTS WERE CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE MOST SUITABLE SHAPE AT THE TURN SECTION. PLATES WITH V-SHAPED AND X-SHAPED RIBS WERE MANUFACTURED BY TRIAL AND ERROR ; COOLING PERFORMANCE AND TUBE WALL TEMPERATURE DISTRIBUTIONS WERE THEN MEASURED. REFRIGERANT BEHAVIOUR IN THE TUBE WAS ALSO OBSERVED BY THE FLOW VISUALIZING EQUIPMENT. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PLATE-TUBE WITH X-SHAPED RIBS WAS SUPERIOR TO THE PLATE-TUBE WITH V-SHAPED RIBS.
