Development of new hybrid materials based on zeolite SAPO and carbon supports for adsorption heat pump applications.

Author(s) : BONACCORSI L., CALABRESE L., DI PIETRO D., et al.

Summary

In this paper, a new concept of adsorber heat exchanger (AdHex) based on zeolite SAPO directly synthesized on carbon supports, is proposed for application in adsorption heat transformers. Different samples were obtained by in-situ synthesis of zeolite SAPO-34 on different carbon supports (carbon felt, paper, fibres). Structural properties of the prepared samples were analysed by XRD and SEM analysis. The carbon supports subjected to an oxidation pre-treatment showed a strong affinity with the zeolitic phase. Measurement of the water adsorption equilibrium curves was performed by a thermogravimetric method in the typical range of pressures (P = 9.8-25.5 mbar) and temperatures (30°C = T = 150°C) of a “low temperature” adsorption cycle. Water loading of the synthesized samples was about 25 wt.%, which is in line with typical water adsorption ability of SAPOs.
