Summary

THE RESISTANCES TO AIRFLOW OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN MEASURED FOR THE DESIGN OF PRESSURE COOLING SYSTEM. PRESSURE DROP INCREASES IN PROPORTION TO SUPERFICIAL AIR VELOCITY AND THE LINEAR REGRESSION IS MADE FOR THE AIR VELOCITY/PRESSURE DROP ON A LOGARITHMIC GRAPH PAPER. THE EXPERIMENTS SHOWED HOW HARD IT IS FOR AIR TO FLOW IN A PACKED BED OF PRODUCTS. THE PRESSURE DROP OF LEMONS, GRAPEFRUITS, POTATOES, ONIONS AT VELOCITY 1.0 M/S FOR THE HEIGHT OF 75 CM VARIES FROM 100 TO 250 PA, THE VALUE FOR PEAS IS 4,300 PA, AND UNSHU MANDARINS AND TEA LEAVES, VARIES FROM 500 TO 1,000 AND FROM 1,460 TO 11,880 PA RESPECTIVELY. THE RESISTANCE OF UNSHU MANDARINS IS INFLUENCED BY STACKING ARRANGEMENT, AND TEA LEAVES ARE AFFECTED BY POROSITY.
