Summary

The ISO 8402 standard defines traceability as being "the ability to monitor over time, the use and the whereabouts of an entity by using recorded identification methods". Traceability can be envisaged from two viewpoints: "internal" traceability and "network" traceability. These notions are defined in this article, and the procedures to be implemented are described.
