Summary
The article presents the technical features and the general design criteria of district heating and cooling grids, with particular reference to combined heat and power systems. The recently approved master plan of district heating for the metropolitan area of Torino is also presented, which foresees a total served volume of 90 million m3 and an installed power of 2850 MW(t) and 1700 MW(e). Development forecasts for Regione Piemonte are also presented.
