Dryout quality and post-dry out heat transfer coefficient for a refrigerant flowing in horizontal evaporator tubes.

Author(s) : MORI H., YOSHIDA S., OHISHI K., et al.

Summary

Experiments were made to measure the dry out quality and the local heat transfer coefficient in the post-"dryout" region for the flow of boiling refrigerant HFC-134a inside a horizontal smooth tube and a spirally grooved (micro-fin) tube. At given conditions, dry out proceeded over a certain range quality. In the post-dry out region, the local heat transfer coefficient in the smooth tube at high mass velocity was found to be lower compared with a superheated vapour when for the grooved tube there is practically no change. According to the quality, heat transfer coefficient begins to decrease and there, stops decreasing. These qualities were clarified for both smooth tube and enhanced surface tube.
