Summary

THE DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF AN AIR CONDITIONED ROOM HAVE BEEN STUDIED USING A SMALL SCALE MODEL ROOM. USING THE PULSE TESTING TECHNIQUE, AN INPUT-OUTPUT DESCRIPTION OF THE ROOM PROCESS IN THE LAPLACE DOMAIN WAS OBTAINED BETWEEN THE SUPPLY AND RETURN AIR TEMPERATURES. FOR AROOM HAVING A HIGH SIDEWALL OUTLET, THE ROOM PROCESS WAS THUS DESCRIBED BY A TRANSFER FUNCTION RELATING THE SUPPLY AND RETURN AIR TEMPERATURES. WITHIN THE EXPERIMENTAL RANGE THIS TRANSFER FUNCTION WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN A FIRST ORDER LEAD AND A THIRD ORDER LAG COMPONENT ALONG WITH A TRANSPORTATION DELAY AND A STEADY STATE GAIN VALUE OF LESS THAN UNITY.
