Summary

THE TEST ROOM WAS A 4 X 4 X 2 M BOX CONSTRUCTED WITH 12 CM THICK CONCRETE AND ENCLOSED BY A GUARD ROOM EXCEPT FOR THE FACADE ORIENTATED TO THE SOUTH IN ORDER TO DECREASE THE INFLUENCES OF AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE AND SOLAR RADIATION. THE SOUTH FACADE WAS COVERED WITH SINGLE GLAZING AND PASSIVE SYSTEMS, SUCH AS A TROMBE WALL AND WATER WALL. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE CONDUCTED DURING THE WINTER AND DATA ON THE ROOM AIR TEMPERATURE, AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE, AND THE INCIDENT SOLAR ENERGY THROUGH THE GLASS WERE COLLECTED TO EVALUATE THE PASSIVE SYSTEMS. THE TROMBE WALL TENDED TO KEEP THE ROOM AIR TEMPERATURE CONSTANT AT A LARGE HEAT CAPACITY. THE TEMPERATURE OF WATER WALLS INCREASED WITH THE INCIDENT SOLAR ENERGY AND VARIED ACCORDING TO THE TIME-LAG VARIATION OF THE ROOM AIR TEMPERATURE.
