Dynamic model of a valve reed with centrifugal loading.

Author(s) : TEH Y. L., OOI K. T.

Summary

In efforts to reduce the large frictional losses associated with rotary type compressors, the compressor housing can be made to rotate in order to effectively reduce the high relative velocities between rubbing components, as demonstrated by the synchronal rotary compressor. In this case a rotating valve assembly may be required. This paper presents the formulation of a simple dynamic model of a valve reed taking into consideration the effect of centrifugal force due to the spinning of the valve component. The results have shown that the centrifugal force could be wed to improve the valve response hence reducing over-compression losses.
