Dynamic modelling and simulation of a transcritical CO2 heat pump unit.

Author(s) : SKAUGEN G., SVENSSON M. C.

Summary

The objective of the paper is to develop a dynamic simulation system for a trans-critical CO2 heat pump unit. The simulation system is based on first principle modeling and the spatially distributed heat exchangers are partitioned into spatial zones in the model formulation stage. Use of real thermodynamic and transport property data is integrated in the simulation system, and the resulting non-linear differential-algebraical equations are solved using MATLAB. The paper presents two case studies where the simulation system is used to simulate step responses to a step decrease in the control valve opening, and a step increase in the hot water pump speed. The simulated step responses are compared with measured step responses taken from a laboratory prototype installation.
