Effect of l-methylcyclopropene in the postharvest life of persimmon cv. 'Rojo Brillante'.

Summary

'Rojo Brillante' persimmon fruits pretreated with CO2 to remove astringency were exposed to 0, 375 or 750 ppb of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) for 12 h at 20 °C. The fruits were then stored in air-free 1-MCP for 7 days at 20 °C to simulate the marketing period or for 2 weeks at 15 °C followed by one week at 20°C to simulate the storage and marketing period. The effects observed in the study suggest that 1-MCP may be an alternative method to extend the postharvest life of 'Rojo Brillante' persimmon.
