Summary
Launched in 2008 EIA’s annual Chilling Facts survey revealed a sector stuck in its ways, with just 14 stores across the UK using climate-friendly technology. HFC-free refrigeration technology was still perceived to be in its infancy and retailers raised concerns about the efficiency and costs of equipment and the lack of trained servicing engineers. Four years on, EIA is pleased to report that HFC-free refrigeration has gone mainstream. 344 stores across the UK now use climate-friendly refrigeration systems with thousands of engineers trained to service them. And reality has debunked those efficiency myths, with retailers reporting significant reductions in energy use when compared to conventional HFC systems.
