Analysis of usage justification of micro-trigeneration systems with absorption chillers fired by natural gas.

Analiza opravdanosti primjene mikro-trigeneracijskih sustava s apsorcijskim rashladnim uredajima pogonjenih prirodnim plinom.

Summary

The paper presents an energy and economic analysis of a micro-trigeneration system driven by natural gas, predicted for small-sized consumers of electricity, heat and cooling energy. A gas microturbine or internal combustion engine is used as prime movers in the analyzed micro-trigeneration system. The absorption chiller, driven by waste heat, is used for cooling purposes. Exhaust gas emission for considered cases is analyzed and compared with the conventional electric power supply system from thermal electric power plant, cooling with compression chiller and heating with gas boiler. The analysis predicts the production of thermal, cooling and electric energy for consumers own needs, whereby surplus of electric energy is delivered to the power supply grid. Due to the relatively low efficiency of considered prime movers in micro-trigeneration system for sole electricity production, it is assumed that the system operates only in cases when waste heat can be used for satisfying cooling and heating needs, otherwise the electricity demands are assured from the supply grid.
