Energy and refrigeration.

Summary

Refrigeration techniques can contribute to the solution of the world's energy predicament in a number of ways. Very low temperatures in the helium range can help to solve the formidable problems of containment for fusion reactors and magnethydrodynamic generators. Medium low temperatures make possible the rational transportation of liquefied gases from remote sources. Application of refrigeration methods at temperatures above ambient in the form of heat pumps gives promise of tremendous energy savings in heating houses and thermal processes alike. Refrigeration machinery absorbs a small but significant part of the primary energy. There are at least five principles which can be applied to reduce the consumption.
