Summary
THE PURPOSE OF A BETTER COLD CHAIN IS REDUCING QUALITY AND MASS LOSSES OF FOODSTUFFS AND ENERGY LOSSES IN PLANT. ENERGY CONSUMPTION BY THE COLD CHAIN WILL INCREASE, MAINLY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. AN ANALYSIS OF LOSSES SHOWS THAT SOME SHOULD BE PREVENTED (SMALL PLANT WITH HERMETICALLY SEALED COMPRESSORS, TRANSPORT, AND OPERATION OF MACHINES AT REDUCED LOAD).
