Summary

NOTES HOW APPLYING A COMPUTER TO DETERMINE THE MOST EFFECTIVE ENERGY USE AND CONSERVATION IN A NEW ESSEX COUNTY COUNCIL SCHOOL BUILDING RESULTED IN A HEAT PUMP INSTALLATION. THE METHOD OF HEATING WAS MECHANICAL VENTILATION WITH HEAT RECOVERY AND UNDERFLOOR ELECTRIC HEATING. HIGH DAYLIGHTING LEVELS COUPLED WITH A TIMED SELECTIVE < LIGHTS OFF > SWITCHING ARRANGEMENT REDUCED LIGHTING COSTS. SOME FAILURES IN AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT FOR THE HEAT PUMP WERE IDENTIFIED AS BEING CAUSED BY AGGRESSIVE WATER. THIS HAS NOW BEEN CORRECTED. (INT. BUILD. SERV. ABSTR., GB., 22, N 3, 1987, 7, 87-00747.
