Energy efficiency in cold store refrigeration systems.

Number: pap. n. 1091

Author(s) : LAURI A., ARTECONI A., CASALENA L., et al.

Summary

Refrigerated warehouses for chilled and frozen foods represent a large portion of the energy demand in the refrigeration sector. This paper analyses the influence of different configurations and technologies in industrial refrigeration systems. Furthermore, given the absence of a clear methodology to assess the energy performance of commercial and industrial refrigeration systems and a reference baseline to quantify the effect of actions to improve such performance, this study wants to contribute to increase the awareness towards the role of certain design features on the overall behavior of the system. A survey among Italian companies in this specific sector together with simulation analysis are used to present the state of the art in industrial refrigeration systems and to quantify the effect of potential technological improvements.
