Summary
THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE RATIONALE FOR CHANGING TO THE MAIN DIESEL ENGINE AS WELL AS THE RESULTS OF COST ANALYSES COMPARING ALTERNATIVE ENGINE INSTALLATIONS (STEAM, STEAM WITH REHEAT, ELECTRIC AND DIESEL). PROJECTED ANNUAL OPERATING COSTS FOR THE DIESEL-PROPELLED LNG SHIP ARE COMPARED TO COSTS FOR LNG SHIPS WITH STEAM TURBINE PROPULSION. BUILDING COST DIFFERENCES ARE SHOWN FOR THE NEW DIESEL DESIGN WITH BOIL-OFF RELIQUEFACTION COMPARED TO THE EXISTING GAS-FIRED STEAM DESIGNS WITH HIGHER BOIL-OFF. (J. ABSTR.
