Summary

FROST DEPOSIT GREATLY AFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE OF A COOLING COIL AND REDUCES ITS COP. IN A COLD ROOM MAINTAINED AT 248 K (-25 DEG C), THE DIFFERENCE IN THE COP BEFORE AND AFTER DEFROSTING IS ABOUT 20 TO 25%. THE POWER CONSUMED BY HOT GAS DEFROSTING IS ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF THAT CONSUMED BY ELECTRICAL HEATER DEFROSTING SYSTEMS. THE USE OF DIFFERENTIAL AMPERAGE FROST LAYER DETECTION INSTRUMENTS HAS REDUCED DEFROSTING CYCLES TO LESS THAN HALF AS COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL TIMER SYSTEMS.
