Energy storage in open cycle desiccant cooling systems; comparison of solid and liquid desiccants.

Author(s) : LAVEMANN E., SIZMANN R.

Summary

In desiccant cooling systems energy for cooling and dehumidification can be stored by means of regenerated desiccant. Solid desiccants like silica gel and zeolites or liquid desiccants like aqueous solutions of lithium chloride and calcium chloride are compared regarding achievable air humidity, specific energy storage capacity, coefficient of performance and process control. Liquid desiccants are recommended as storage material for air-conditioning applications.
