Prototypes test of adsorption refrigerator using silica gel-water pairs.

Summary

To develop a more compact and more efficient adsorption refrigerator, the adsorbent and adsorption reactor were considered, taking into account the mass and heat transfer limitations, and examined, using a bench-scale adsorption refrigerator. The adsorption isobars of water on improved silica gels were measured gravimetrically by a newly developed thermal balance. The experimental studies led to the planning of 10-ton two-adsorber refrigerator prototype. The paper presents a status report on its operating characteristics, COP, and cooling capacity vs operating temperatures.
