ENHANCEMENT OF FINNED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS.

Summary

BY USE OF A TESTING STATION THE VALUE OF THE AIR SIDE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IN DRY CONDITIONS HAS BEEN MEASURED. THE INFLUENCE OF THE FIN SPACING AND THE NUMBER OF ROWS IS REPORTED. A COMPARISON IS MADE BETWEEN THE SMOOTH PLATE, WAFFLE AND LOUVER FINS. THE AIR SIDE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT AND AIR PRESSURE DROP ARE CORRELATED. THE SECOND PART DEALS WITH AN EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE SAME COILS FOR AIR COOLING AND DEHUMIDIFICATION. THE VALIDITY OF ENTHALPY POTENTIAL METHOD, FIRST INTRODUCED BY W. GOODMANN IN 1938-39, IS DISCUSSED. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCHES ON HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER ON WETTED COILS ARE NOT, UP TO NOW, NUMEROUS. ON THE OTHER HAND A LOT OF DIFFERENTLY CORRUGATED FINS ARE MORE AND MORE AT DISPOSAL IN REFRIGERATION AND HEAT PUMP APPLICATIONS.
