Enhancement of finned tube heat exchangers: the state of art.

Summary

Finned tube heat exchangers with copper tubes and aluminium continuous fins are the most current type of liquid air heat exchangers. The paper deals with the thermal characteristics air side with reference to theoretical and experimental researches, and correlations for predicting the heat transfer surface coefficient; the influence of the fin spacing and the rows number; the improvement obtained by introducing new shapes of fins with corrugated, wavy and louvered surface; fundamentals on combined heat and mass transfer in wet surface air coolers; air pressure loss; fundamentals on two phase heat transfer inside tubes and available correlations; enhanced two phase heat transfer inside tubes.
