Type of article: Article

Summary

THE BASIC PRINCIPLES OF ENHANCEMENT OF SINGLE-PHASE FORCED-CONVECTION HEAT TRANSFER ARE DESCRIBED. THE 3 PRINCIPAL TECHNIQUES CURRENTLY EMPLOYED (INTERRUPTED FINS, TWISTED TAPES, AND TURBULENCE PROMOTERS) ARE INTRODUCED. MECHANISMS OF HEAT-TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT AND A REPORT ON THE LATEST ADVANCES IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ARE PRESENTED. SUPPLEMENTARY REMARKS ARE GIVEN ON TECHNIQUES UTILIZING MULTIPHASE FLOW AND ELECTROSTATIC FIELD. THE POSSIBILITY OF FURTHER DEVELOPMENT IS DISCUSSED.
