Entropy analysis of heat pump cycle taking heat transfer characteristics into account.

Author(s) : NAKANISHI S.

Summary

A new performance index of heat pump and refrigerator is introduced and its application is demonstrated. It is defined as a ratio of the COP value of the heat pump or refrigerator to an installation without thermodynamic loss, and is called as the "COP ratio". Its calculation formulae are presented for various types of heat pumps and refrigerators. It is shown that there exists close relationship between the COP ratio and the exergy efficiency. A method of diagnosing thermodynamic loss by entropy generation analysis is developed for the vapour compression type heat pump. Finally some recommendations are given about the thermodynamic assessment of heat pump and refrigerator.
