Estimated emissions of HFCs in the UK: 1990 to 2000.

Type of article: Periodical article

Summary

National inventories of estimated HFC emissions for 1990 and 2000 have been developed in collaboration with UK chemical manufacturers and industry representative groups. The inventories are disaggregated by user sector and include emissions of HFCs from refrigeration and air-conditioning appliances, aerosols, fire-fighting equipment, foam-blowing agents and solvents, and the formation of HFCs as a by-product in chemical manufacturing. The overall contribution of HFC emissions to radiative forcing decreases from 1990 to 2000 but remains between 1 and 2% of the total UK radiative forcing from all greenhouse gas emissions. On a sectoral basis, emissions from chemical manufacturing is the only major source of HFCs in 1990. By 2000, HFCs emitted from refrigeration appliances and aerosols are the major contributors. Emission of HFCs beyond 2000 have also been considered.
