Summary

THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THREE TYPES OF FROZEN FOOD CASES. WELL FREEZERS HAVE ADVANTAGES IN TERMS OF OPERATING COST VERSUS DISPLAY AREA AND STOCKING COSTS, BUT RATE POORLY IN TERMS OF SPACE UTILISATION ; THEY ALSO RATE WELL IN TERMS OF SIMPLICITY OF REFRIGERATION AND INITIAL COST. GLASS DOOR CABINETS ARE MORE EXPENSIVE TO STOCK, BUT IN TERMS OF COST PER UNIT OF SHELF SPACE ARE SIMILAR TO THE WELL TYPE ; UTILISATION OF FLOOR SPACE IS GOOD. MULTI-TIERED CABINETS ARE EXPENSIVE BUT HAVE GOOD CUSTOMER APPEAL, HAVE A SIMPLE REFRIGERATION SYSTEM, BUT HIGH ENERGY COSTS. CONSIDERATION IS ALSO GIVEN TO SYSTEM DESIGN AND INSTALLATION INCLUDING PROPER ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL IN THE STORE. G.R.S.
