Evaluation and implementation of R502 alternatives for transport refrigeration.

Author(s) : KWON S. L., BERGE J., NALEY L.

Summary

The paper reviews the performance requirements of transport refrigeration, the test program developed to measure alternative refrigerant performance, and compressor and other component modifications made to accomodate alternative refrigerants. The performance results of blends of hydrofluocarbons (HFC) refrigerants selected for long term use in new transport refrigeration systems are then presented and discussed. While the performance of hydrochlorofluocarbon (HCFC) blends has also been evaluated for suitability of use in retrofit applications, the results have not been included in this paper due to space limitations.
