Evaluation of concepts for metal hydride air-conditioning systems for cars.

Summary

Three different concepts for thermally driven metal hydride air-conditioning systems for cars have been investigated. Each system has a different working principle. The rotating tube bundle system offers a continuous output of cold and can easily be implemented in a car. The multi-hydride-thermal-wave system with a special multi-tube reactor is a promising concept with only few components, but a complicated structure of the reaction bed. Both systems are compared with a conventional system. The new concepts can be driven by heat from the exhaust gases of the engine or (if the engine is not running or the exhaust gas heat is not sufficient) an additional burner. The efficiency of each systemis evaluated.
