Summary

Actuated by the widespread concentration on detrimental environmental impacts derived from the release of refrigerant, an experimental device was established to study the atmospheric chemistry of these refrigerants. In this work, the atmospheric chemistry of Z-CF3CH=CHF (Z-HFO-1234ze) and (CF3)2CHOCH3 (HFE-356mmz1) were studied, while the two substances were developed as a new generation refrigerant. By a relative rate method, the OH-initiated reaction rate constants of Z-HFO-1234ze and HFE-356mmz1 were measured to be 1.37×10-12 and 2.06×10-13 cm3 molecule-1 s-1, respectively. The IR absorption spectrum of the two compounds were also obtained at room temperature, and their radiative efficiencies (REs) were calculated as 0.0196 and 0.105 W m-2 ppb-1, respectively. Combining these data, the 100-year time horizon GWP of Z-HFO-1234ze was estimated to be <1 and that of HFE-356mmz1 was 5.
