Summary
The influence of intermediate temperature on energy efficiency in a cascade system was assessed in this article. For the evaluation, a cascade unit with CO2 in the low stage and NH3 in the high stage was chosen. Evaluation was conducted at set condensation and evaporation temperatures for the intermediate temperature range. After calculations, the intermediate temperature was regarded as optimal with respect to energy. The cascade unit, working at a previously calculated optimal intermediate temperature, was compared with a single-stage unit using R22 and working under the same conditions. It followed that the cascade unit is better than single-stage units with respect to both thermodynamics and the economy.
