Summary

In view of ozone depletion and global warming, there is an urgent need to convert from HFCs to natural refrigerants. Among the several candidates of natural refrigerants, R-744, which has excellent thermal properties is suitable for practical application. Additionally, R-600a is already applied as a household refrigerant and its GWP and ODP are almost zero. Under these circumstances, the purpose of the research is to grasp the feature of the evaporating heat transfer and the hydraulic characteristics of pure R-744 and the binary R-744 and R-600a mixture. Finally, to propose the widely available correlation for the thermal and hydraulic characteristics of pure R-744 in tube evaporation phenomena, the authors derive the empirical correlation in consideration of the evaporating temperature and the tube diameter in the paper.
