Evaporation and condensation heat transfer and pressure drop of R22 inside microfin tubes.

Summary

In-tube flow boiling and condensation experiments for R22 have been carried out on two microfin tubes of differing internal profile, and on a smooth tube. In boiling tests, the nominal saturation temperature is 5 deg C, with inlet vapour quality varying from 0.2 to 0.6. In condensation, results are for a saturation temperature equal to 35 deg C, with inlet and outlet qualities of 0.8 and 0.2 respectively. Both microfin tubes show a substantial increase in the heat transfer coefficient penalized by a small increase of pressure drops. The enhancement factor turned out to be decreasing with increasing mass flow rates.
