Experience with R-723 in small refrigeration systems.

Author(s) : HANSEN S.

Summary

Six small refrigeration systems were manufactured and tested with R-723 in an EU project in co-operation with 4 small refrigeration companies and 2 Technology Research Centres from Denmark and Germany. The objective of the project was to encourage the future use of ammonia in small systems by presenting technical solutions with ammonia and R-723 that might become competitive in relation to HFCs in small refrigeration systems. The main conclusion was that R-723 is interesting for medium-sized commercial applications where factory built chillers, heat pump units, etc. can be manufactured (water)tight with copper just as HFC systems with semihermetic compressors.
