Summary

This paper presents the experimental and numerical analysis of a liquid metal as a heat transfer fluid in a magnetic refrigeration. Several numerical studies have shown a great advantage when using a liquid metal as a working fluid in an active magnetic regenerator in a comparison to other fluids such as water. The advantage of a liquid metal is above all in the terms of better heat transfer characteristics. For the purposes of this experimental study a liquid metal Galinstan was applied into the AMR testing device (with gadolinium parallel-plate AMR).
