Experimental analysis of an IHX in a CO2 subcritical cycle.

Summary

This work presents the experimental evaluation of an internal heat exchanger (IHX) in a CO2 subcritical refrigeration plant with gas-cooler. The plant is driven by a 1.5 kW semihermetic compressor, uses brazed plate heat exchangers as condenser,
evaporator and IHX, and an air-finned tube gas-cooler. The evaluation covers evaporating temperatures from -40 to -25 ºC and condensing levels from -15 to 0ºC. All tests were done at the nominal speed of the compressor. It has been observed that the IHX
does not improve directly the COP and capacity of the subcritical cycle, but its combination with a cascade cycle improve the overall performance.
